Docere (Doh-CARE-ay) is the Latin word for inform, teach, or guide. Docere Services, LLC was founded by me, Jon Woods, in 2026. It is a fully virtual service company that offers support with a wide perspective to students, families, educators, and other professionals.
My goal is to improve the experiences of everyone participating in the education system. Parents will feel heard, supported, and empowered while managing their child's. Students will get more from their classes, take more ownership of their learning, and unlock future possibilities. Teachers will have renewed purpose, and they will find new ways to improve practices, planning, collaboration. Administrators will see environments become inclusive and effective, while they maintain focus on the educational missions of their schools.
I started my work in schools at the age of 18, teaching elementary students reading and math in an after-school enrichment program.
While I earned my bachelor's degree at Western Oregon University, I worked as a writing consultant, supporting college students with their various projects. It was while working in this role that I realized the value added by my American Sign Language fluency. I could provide support to a whole new population within our school because I had grown up with a deaf parent and used sign language my entire life!
Eventually, I began my work in public schools as a support staff member. I absorbed an incredible amount while working alongside expert teachers in countless subject areas. I got to learn what works and the level of expectations students will rise to. I also saw the ways students felt belonging, related with their peers, and had meaningful experiences in school. I knew I would need to apply that knowledge when I had a classroom of my own.
That classroom was waiting for me at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we returned to in-person school and many teachers shifted their careers, I was working on completing my master's degree with the University of Arizona.
Working as a full-time, first-year teacher while enrolled in a full-time graduate was intense but worth it. It was a baptism by fire, but I learned skills and work strategies that I've been able to carry into new chapters.
I have loved my career journey so far. I know I've influenced the lives of students for the better, and I know I've contributed to my school communities in ways that will continue to have an impact.
But throughout all my great experiences with their beautiful ups and downs, I still had a desire to make greater waves: engage with parents without worrying about report cards, raise the level of education for students outside the walls of my classroom, bridge the departmental divides between staff. The only way to push forward with that dream was to create the channel for myself, and that's why I'm now the proud founder of Docere Services.
As intensely as I've gone after my career, I haven't forgotten to have fun.
I am a man of many interests, always looking to try new experiences and learn new things. It's what has kept me enthusiastic about so many subjects and classes throughout my life.
I continue to travel the world with my wonderful wife of 10+ years. We've explored 9 countries outside the US so far with no intention of slowing down. While I'm strictly trained as a US teacher, my experiences have brought a global perspective to everything I do, within my career and otherwise.
I believe education unlocks the ability to live a fulfilled life. I'm living that fulfilled life, and I'd like to make a copy of the keys for as many people as I can.
