Students in middle school, high school, and even college often need support to navigate their educational journey. As a parent, you want to do everything you can to help. Often, a combination of barriers arise for both you and your child. I'm here to help remove those barriers.
For students age 12+, I offer several types of virtual academic support*:
Homework help for any or all of these subjects
English Language Arts and Literature
I use my background of college literature coursework alongside my experience in English Language and Literature classrooms to help students grow their skills with comprehension, analysis, discussion, and written response.
Social Studies/History
When students are given readings or research projects, I can guide them in using proper perspectives, sources, and the language of social studies to engage with the materials.
Math up to High School Geometry
In the modern-day math classroom, a lot is being demanded of students. Finding the correct answer is not enough, and my sessions will help them get used to processes, talk like mathmeticians, and understand the underlying concepts that they will be expected to know while working with the new math curriculum.
Tutoring in academic reading, writing, and notetaking skills
Sometimes, it isn't the subject that's causing the challenge. Some students just need to know the best way to sift through materials, organize their thoughts, and commit things to memory. I will help them use techniques that are successful and fit their learning style. These skills can transfer into any class with a lecture or reading component.
Guidance with study habits, time management skills, and test-taking strategies
I have met so many smart students who simply didn't know how to, well... be students. Especially in grades 8-12, students are expected to take ownership of their learning and their time management. They will take tests and quizzes no matter how much anxiety they feel. We can work on all these things by introducing strategies, training mindsets, and teaching students to hold themselves accountable.
