Deaf and Hard of Hearing

From my experience and training in both Special Education and Deaf Education, I am happy to provide services that target the unique needs of DHH children. And these virtual 1-on-1 or small-group sessions can be held in American Sign Language or spoken English, depending on the primary language and modality.

I have experience serving students who need

• Interventions based on language deprivation

• Advancement of ASL language skills

• Reading comprehension approaches that are not sound-based

• Structured writing strategies that help students express their ideas clearly, even when English is a second language

• Support using interpreters and advocating for their communication needs

• Approaches to navigating majority-hearing environments, like general education classrooms, clubs, and sports

• All of the academic support available to all families, described here

These services shouldn't be expected to replace Special Education or other IEP-based services but to supplement them and accelerate your child's progress. Also, if certain services and instructional minutes are not being offered within your school's special education system, we don't need to be limited by official evaluation reports, staffing constraints, or any of those other factors that come from school districts. We get to serve your child's needs without the bureaucracy.
